Evolutionary Astrology
Evolutionary Astrology (EA) is a method of Western astrological interpretation founded by Jeffrey Wolf Green and is widely viewed as “astrology for the soul.” It is built on the idea that we are souls, all individual expressions of a Greater Oneness or Source Energy, and that we have incarnated lifetime after lifetime to understand and know ourselves as such.
As souls, we made the conscious decision to become embodied in human form so that we may learn, grow, and realize the true potential of exactly who we are and what we are made of. It is a harrowing journey back to Source via the Earth School. The echoes, grooves, and indentations of the soul’s many lifetimes are encoded into each person’s birth chart, whispering clues of who we may have been in our past (or parallel) lives, and the subconscious memories that may still be contained and active within our being.
Evolutionary Astrology focuses closely on Pluto, the Lunar Nodes, and the Nodal Rulers in navigating the major themes of the soul’s journey. It accounts for the existence of traumatic experiences and subconscious holding patterns of those traumas, as well as how to heal and be liberated from them, through the placement of Neptune, Uranus, Chiron, and Pluto.
EA parts from other branches of Western astrology in that it does not ever view a planet as being in its “detriment,” as some may say about Mars in Cancer or Venus in Aries. Instead, it posits that the placement of each planet in each house and sign has a specific purpose for that soul’s growth and evolution. There are no optimal or suboptimal signs for a planet to be in.
Overall, EA goes much deeper than the majority of modern Western astrology that has taken root in social media and pop culture. There is a much bigger narrative being told in the birth chart than just the personas of the sun, moon, and ascendant. Overly generalized or predictive horoscopes do not apply in Evolutionary Astrology as the full, mysterious, remarkable portrait of the soul is honored and carefully considered, and free will is always respected.
The entire birth chart tells a timeless, holistic, multidimensional web of stories whose echoes manifest in the matrix of our daily lives. As conscious creators, we get to claim our authorship of these stories and make the most of this lifetime as we live in the here and now.
